By changing the ram (512mb ddr) to 1gb ddr, will that make the speed of
searching data more faster?

Do you mean the built-in Windows search or more of an overall Explorer
type operation(s) ? Searches/Explorer are more restricted by disk speed.
Adding more physical RAM beyond your current level won't give you a
direct/perceptible gain in performance. Better to use a 3rd-Party defrag
program ( Perfect Disk, Diskeeper, O&O ) to help your drive operate in
a more optimized mode.
Searching is also affected by data layout. The more large folders with lots
of files in them can affect "Search" times.

Not likely, the slowest part of your PC is the Hard Drive where the files to
be search are stored and not memory, unless you have a really slow drive
even a new drive would not make much of a difference.

the speed is set
regardless if you
get more ram.

if you get more
ram, then you can
manage more data
in memory.

sort of like a carburetor
for a car. a hemi carb
can increase the power
of a motor.

some software are
very large programs
that need lots of ram,
like Photoshop.

you can use this
freeware to help
analyze your memory
and see if you are
consistently running low
and basically need more
physical ram: http://www.amsn.ro/

here is another with
additional links: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/article/registry_cleaner_why.htm

incidentally, "searching" is
a feature provided via
the "index service".

sometimes disabling it or
enabling it can make a
noticeable difference......

You should
have split
line with the
link to keep
with the
style of
your short
line lengths.

If you're go-
ing to be
different, at
least be
consistent. :/

duly noted.

No, it's likely you won't notice any difference. The bottleneck in
searching is the speed of data transfer to/from the hard drive.

Yes, but over and above that, Dennis should note that the so-called
RAM speed is actually not RAM speed at all, but the RAM speed
*rating*. The RAM runs at the speed the motherboard is set to run it
at. The so-called "RAM Speed" is the speed the RAM is *capable* of
running at.

Yes. RAM is the gold that can be traded for almost everything else.
