I recently ugraded my HP 7850 to 512 RAM and Windows XP
will not boot. Previously I could boot with 512 RAM on
the same computer when using Windows ME. I have replaced
the RAM cards, Checked the BIOS to confirm 512 was
installed on the motherboard. XP will only boot with up
to 384 Of RAM

Try entering the BIOS,exit page, select, load set-up defaults, then save changes
and exit the BIOS.You can also run microsoft memory tester,go to:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Download the utility to a floppy (formatted in DOS) then restart computer.
.
Reset bios default settings and I have checked memory
modules. No help

A: One of your RAM modules is defective.

B: You are installing modules that are from different manufacturers,
or perhaps from the same manufacturer but different production lots.
Under those circumstances there can be differences in the material
composition and/or the internal layout of the RAM modules. These
differences can affect the strength and the timing of the signals
returned from the RAM and Windows is sensitive to these timing
differences.

Good luck
