Any OS upgrade can cause already installed software not to work. In some
cases, you simply need to reintall in others, the software is not compatible
and you need to check for updates or new versions. In the case of XP, that
is certainly true of any disk utilities, antivirus software and firewalls,
you need to have XP compatible versions and that applies to CD burning
software as well. Nero, Easy CD Creator all need to be updated or new
versions need to be installed depending upon the version currently
installed.

You might want download and run the Upgrade Analyzer which might be able to
tell you about incompatible hardware and software on your system. Note,
this is an approximate 50MB download so you might want to use a braodband
connection to download it if you have access to one:

It certainly won't "corrupt" any software. Depending on what the software is, it may or not work under XP. Most older software works under XP, with the exception of disk utilities and some games.

Run the Upgrade Advisor at

That should identify any potential problems with existing software.
