I downloaded and installed quicktime so I could
play some quicktime movies that my browser would
not play --
Now all video - MPEG etc files - play under quicktime
if I click on the movie from my browser - I hate
this and want my windows media player to play the
videos as they did before I installed quicktime --

What do I do to reset the browser (IE) so my videos
will play under the media player that came with
my XP system and IE?

I have searched everywhere for this answer.

You need to open Windows Media Player and go to Tools>Options>File Types and
tell MP to be the default player for the files you want.
Similarly, you need to tell QuickTime to be the default player for only the
types of files you want to open in it. In QuickTime, go to
Edit>Preferences>QuickTime Preferences.
Reboot after making these changes and you should be in business. It is
aggravating when software writers enable their software to make these types
of changes without your consent.

Hopefully you've resolved this because I see you posted
this quite a while ago. If you haven't already, go into
Windows Media and redefine the file types you want it to
run. This should set your default back to WIndows Media,
away from Quicktime. I had the same problem and it was
because Quicktime sets its own definitions to include the
file types you want Media to run.
