I have a Kodak easy share camera which records video in QuickTime files.
I'd like to edit these clips in windows movie maker and view them in windows
media, but when Win Media sends for the codecs it comes back with an error
message.(Not compatible or corrupt file)
Is there any way to convert a QuickTime movie to, for example, a windows
movie file?
Excuse me if it's a daft question, but I'm fairly new to this.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.,
Problem solved, I'm now happily making movies with WMM.
Ended up using the video converter suggested by Warren, which was really
useful.

Well, you may not like this answer, but it's the easiest way and it's the truth
If you were to upgrade your QuickTime to Pro (though it'd set you back $30), you could export/convert your QTime movies into an AVI (audio-visual interlace) or mpeg format; after which, import them into Win Med normally and work with them as you wish. I don't remember (I had pro 'pirate-style', but lost the functionality when Qtime went from v.5 to v.6 and I agreed to the upgrade), but I think QuickTime Pro MIGHT have had a utility for converting to Windows Media files as well (which really wouldn't be better or worse--except mpegs and SOME AVI's are cross-platform).
