Hello, world.

After removing a spyware-type search toolbar, my computer now 'forgets' my
quicklaunch toolbar state after a reboot. I assume that something in the
registry has been a little-too-thoroughly cleaned :(

I've checked the logs of the software I used but don't see anything that I
recognise as having potentially interfered with this setting. There are no
spyware removal application persistent 'innoculations' applied to my system
as far as I know.

Is there a kind expert out here who might be able to point me at what might
be causing this problem?

Many thanks,

Charlie.

Hi Charlie,

Line 164. Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Download and apply this VBS. Restart Windows and customize the QL again. See if the settings are retained on next boot. If that does not help, open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

In the right-pane, locate the value named "Userinit" and note down the value data (should be C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, the correct value)

If you see any other value there, post back with details and change the value data to:

C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

(Assuming Windows is installed in C:\ drive)

Thanks Ramesh;

The value I found there was 'C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe'

I suspect this isn't actually one of 'yours' ;)
