Help me! I need a fast and reliable PC in the next few days. Please give me at least Motherboard and CPU suggestions. Both Intel and AMD are welcome, and the price should be around 2000 pounds(1200 $ or 1000 Euros)

I only work in Laptops, so im not going to be much use,

All i wanted to comment on was £2,000 is NOT $1200, Its the other way around $2000 is the same as £1200 (£1 is about $1.79)

Ooops!
Sorry! And thanks.

I meant 700-800 pounds, i.e. 1000-1200 USD... For the whole thing af course!

Well for £1200 you would want either an AMD Athlon 64 3400 or a P4 3.4 ghz processor, there both about £220 a piece.
A good motherboardf like an Abit AI7 will be around £70
You will want a nice shiney X800XT PE graphics card, which is around £350.
A 120 gig S-ATA drive will set you back around £80.
2x512 DDR PC3200 (quality stuff) will be around £125.
An Antec Truepower 480w PSU will be around £75.
Lian Li PC 61 case should be around £90
CD RW drive for around £30 will be fine
DVD Drive for about £30 will be fine too ;).

And thats how you spend over £1000 on a PC. But that seems like a mighty amount to be spending on a PC!

If you want an reliable PC, Buy an apple!

Manufactorer rating (According to what PC?)

1. Apple
2. Sony
3. Dell...
...56. Time...
...62. Tiny!

The above is true, i have an apple, it has never crashed, EVER!

An Apple isnt classed as a PC, its classed as a MAC.

And Apples arnt great to be honest, there nearly impossible (unless your really rich) to upgrade. They wont handle the top end games that well, and there software is limited.

Ok... Good reliable PC for around £800 - does this have to include a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse/Speaker?

I am assuming not in this case

I suggest this (sorry havent checked prices but should be on budget if guesses are right) and this should be a kickass PC.

Abit AN7 Guru motherboard (N-Force 2)
AMD Athlon 3200+ Barton 400FSB - Retail
2x512Mb Corsair Value Ram
ATI Radeon X800 Pro (OCUK 16 pipeline modification) 256Mb AGP 8x version
2x SATA 80Gb 7200rpm driveds (for a RAID 0 array)
Dual Layer 8x DVD burner, in black
Antec SOHO file server case and 400w TRU-Power package
Rounded IDE cable
Rounded FDD cable
a Pack of thumb screws
2 80mm case fans.
Floppy drive in black

That should do ya.

Regards,
Chris

An Apple is a PC

'What PC' better get some technical advice from PCReview ... they were of course quoting reliability for 'computers' ... but I hasten to add, in their opinion. (Oh, my toaster is classed as a computer; it has a 'chip' in it)

erebon, my suggestion is MSI motherboard of AMD 3400 flavour 64bit, both have good reliability and stability ... as you seem to have more than enough money to spend I'd be looking at "the next generation" PC that you can buy now.

Even if you go "OTT" (over the top) with the "extras", such as a fancy named case, you should still have change from £1000 ... if you want to go OTT it should still come in under £1500.

Dont get any others, they aparently suck. the original only. You MUST rent it.

LOL! Banana is good!

Well, looking at the overall suggestions I think AMD will be the choice. I like MSI. My old system was MSI from head to to, MB, CD-RW, Graphics, all MSI.

But as I have no Idea about AMD, I need more explantions!

Exact Motherboard suggestions, CPU names and numbers, and a 80 GB hdd. I am as far sure about the x800...
I'll figure the monitor out myself, case is there as are mouse and keybourd
