Can a raid board be used like a "regular" board i.e. 2 hard drives hooked up
as master and slave? And, what is a "cnr" slot? TIA

Yes. Most have a "RAID" and "Base" mode. Base would be "regular"

What is CNR?
Cut and paste: CNR - CNR or Communication and Network Riser is a new type of
slot that supports audio, modem, USB and Local Area Network cards. This slot
is highly recommended for any user building a large amount of computers as
the cards are generally cheaper then the standard PCI or ISA cards.

You can switch between RAID mode and normal IDE mode in the BIOS.

A CNR slot is a Communications Network Riser slot. There have been very
few cards that have ever been made for it, and I'm not even sure they
exist anymore.
