Is it possible to create new userdefined categories to store autotext items
into or can i copy paste and rename an already existing category ?

I run a word2000 application opening several dot files, among them of course
normal.dot.
How can i set autotext to store new autotext items into a specific category
in a specififc .dot file. Is there some hidden setting to do this ? How can I
select the dot file to store the autotext fragments ?

Autotext's are filed according to the paragraph style of the saved item.
You can choose where to save the autotexts from (open) templates by
selecting the destination template in the 'look in' selector in the autotext
dialog, or you can move autotexts (and the styles) between templates using
the organizer.

Dear Graham,
the second answer is clear, thank you.
However, my first question was not clearly formulated.
If i open the insert autotext option in word, i see a list of several
autotext categories (headers) of which several names are predefined (and not
changeable) and a category named standard in which all my autotext comments
are filed. However, I would like to rubricate (classify) different autotext
fragments into different headers like EEG, EMG, EP ect appearing in my
selection list.
Can I edit the predefined autotext items in word ?

thank you

Only if you have paragraph styles of these names and they are assigned to
the texts when you save them. The heading names reflect the paragraph styles
of the text as I indicated in my earlier reply.
