Okie Noah

I have a Laptop, running WinXP Pro. There are a lots of old junk in it.
I want to do a cleanup of my Laptop, (& reformat the drive), but keep
some useful programs and get rid of the rest. If I run 'regedit' and export
the reg file, and save it in a CD and also save the 'Program Files' and
'Windows' directories, would it be possible to recreate the running
conditions of the saved programs, by 'Importing' the reg file ?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

[P.S. I still have the original CDs of all of these programs, but some CDs
are not readable. I still have the serial numbers on the CDs].

Hi Okie,

No, restoring the registry in this way will not work, and should not
be tried.

You should call the manufacturer of the software in question and ask
for a replacement disk.

Some of the software is old and the manufacturers are gone.
I guess I am out of luck. Thanks for the advice.
