Question Regarding HOSTS Files As Pop-Up Blocker

It was recently suggested on this forum to use a HOSTS
file to block pop-ups, spyware, and hijackers
(http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm). In the
example provided on the webpage, "127.0.0.1" is cited
as "the location of your computer". How can I check what
value to fill in the hosts file for my system? I connect
to the internet using a dial-up service that registers me
with a different ip address every time I connect. Will
this interfere with the HOSTS file?

Thanks,

Brian

Just leave it as 127.0.0.1. Or if you want to use DNS replace that
with localhost, but why take the lookup hit? It doesn't matter if you
connect via dialup or have an always-on broadband connection, localhost
should still be 127.0.0.1.
