I have had intruders (children!) playing on my computer and whenever I go to
send/receive a message it gives me this message

The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly. Account: 'optusnet', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Has worked fine before......I have tried changing the host details.....but
I am not sure what they were in the first place?

Hope someone can help?

Cheers, Sarah

You need to check the note you received from Optus when you
first signed up. It contains all the necessary details, ie.
- Your account name
- Your password
- The name of the Optus POP3 server
- The name of the Optus SMTP server

Some of these details are also listed on the Optus web page.
If all fails, ring the Optus HelpDesk and identify yourself. They
will then step you through the process of restoring your OE
settings.

Cheers Pegasus,

It sounds like a basic question I know, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks Again, Sarah

'POP3' is not the name of optus.net's POP3 server (nor is 'SMTP' the name of
its SMTP server). As Pegasus suggested, check with optus.net for the proper
names and configuration settings.

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
