Well, it shouldn't, assuming it's written correctly and properly, something
you don't know with unknown sources. That's the bad The good news
is:
In XP you have a program called "shutdown.exe" which you can use to creat
a shortcut that will do the shutdown or restart etc., for you. To see how
to use it, open a Command Prompt and type shutdown /? and it'll give you all
the possibilities. Then just create a desktop icon with the proper switches
to shutdown and you'll be all set.
Personally I try to avoid any software from a source I'm not familiar
with; you never know what you're actually going to download from them.

Be careful. It is difficult to envisage how such a program could
work without creating some risks. There are quite a number of events
that occur during a normal shutdown of Windows and which would likely
not occur on such an instaneous shutdown. It could cause file
corruption and/or data loss.
