Hello,

I have important Eudora, Acrobat, MS Word and Excel files on my home system that
I cannot lose and do not have the resources currently to back up. Are files
commonly lost when upgrading from ME to XP Pro Version?

Thanks,

Cindy

Hey Cindy,

I'm not an exspert so don't trust me too much (!) but I think if you upgrade
the ME to XP it should be OK just don't do a clean installation.

Though I have had many people saying that upgrading ANY windows OS to ANY
new version is the worst thing you can do as it becomes even more buggy.

Kinda stuck there, yo either keep the apps and have a crummy-buggy windows
or you lose your files... the Choice is your .

Not 'commonly' no, but if you have valued data that you don't have
backed up, you are dicing with death on a daily basis .. disks fail
(usually catastrophically) with no notice.

If you 'cannot lose' them, then figure out how to back them up - network
them to another PC, make CD copies, whatever. Your PC could be stolen,
your house could burn down ... but most likely your disk will fail (Mean
Time Between Failures on most disk is quoted at ~400k hours. Sounds
good? Means ~1 in 50 will die each year). OK, that's better odds than
playing Russian Roulette, but still scary.
