what I hope is a simple question, what is the difference between local disk
C and D? I notice my C has about 35.1GB of the 51.6 available. However the
D only has 1.65 GB of the 4.21GB available.

Near as I can tell, local disc C has 16.5 Gb of space taken up by
programs and your D disc has 2.56 Gb of programs on it. The only other
difference is the obvious: one is designated "C" and the other "D".

I suspect the D is a restore partition.....unless you know otherwise.
