question on formatting/styling when pasting

I just received a new computer with XP (previously I had win98),
Everytime I copy/paste , for example, AOL to excel, aol to word, explorer to
excel etc. it always keep the original formatting from the other program. Is
there a setting to force the paste to automatically confine to the program's
format?

So if I'm copying something from AOL to word, I want word to override AOL's
font and size.

I know I can do this individualy by clicking the paste icon and select
match destination formatting, but it's an annoying extra step that wasn't
there in 98.
I tried the help section but couldn't find an answer, that's how I found
this board.
Thank you

You can use Paste Special as Unformatted Text.

Hello
Thanks for you response but it's just another way of what I'm doing now by
right clicking on the paste icon and selecting match formatting. It's still
an extra step that wasn't there in previous word and excel versions.

It doesn't look like there is a setting anywhere for this, I copy and paste
quite often so I'll guess I'll have to get used the 'new feature'
