This my second attempt at a reply to this question.

For some reason whenever I save an image from the web lately, FF insists on
saving it in the form:

imagename.jpg.jpeg

Why is it adding the extra 'jpeg' extension and how do I make it stop?
Nothing in the Preferences jumps out at me. Any ideas?

Possibly because none of us has ever seen this behavior from Firefox. I'd
scan my computer for malware if I were you.

Maybe it's a server-generated image of type image/jpeg or something.
Can you give us an example?

Solved the problem. Via Explorer | File Types I found and deleted the
extension 'jpeg.' That seems to have done the trick.
