Hi
I have unix servers on my network. i use a software
called samba to create shares on these servers that
microsoft machines can use.
I connect to the server by executing \\server_name and i
get the list of shares.
If i connect from a windows 2k machine and double click a
share i get a user/password prompt - i fill the user and
password that are configured in the unix server and i can
connect.
However if i connect from a machine running xp - when i
double click a share i get a user/password prompt where
the user is defaulted to guest and is grayed out - so i
can't change to the correct user name and therefore i
can't connect.
If i am using map network drive and connect as it is
working - but that is not a good solutions cause the list
of shares is very long and very dynamic ( changing all
the time ).
Is there a way to make windows xp behave like windows 2k
on the described situation and let me choose the user and
password on my own ??
Thanks
