Question about lost documents

Dear Forum,

I want to ask where I can find information on filing of documents such as
letters, memos, proposals. When I file them in the (save in) blank such as
"xxx.doc", I can't find it and search does'nt know where it is either. I am
tired of losing documents.

When I even try to select any other letter, memo, proposal, it says (file
can not be found) when I know its in there. It says that it may have
something to do with filing format of document or a antivirus system problem,
what are your thoughts?

I appreciate any help on this matter!! Thanks!!

When you file them - what directory are you saving them in?

Are you just opening them directly from say - an email? That is bad
practice. Better to save them - choosing not only the name but location
that you know how to get to - in the process.

When you save a Word document, does the dialog box look like the one in
this image:

In the upper left-hand corner is "Save in," and to its left is a
drop-down list. In the example I gave you, the directory is "My
Documents." What is yours?

Also, you can search your C: drive for all Word documents. Use an
asterisk as a wildcard (this will search for all files with a .doc
extension):

*.doc

You may sort the results by date. The location will be given. What is
the location?

Directories box says "My documents." From another persons perspective, I
should just use a (.doc) ending, such as xxx.doc. That way I'll have no
problems. Thanks for your help!!

I want to see what your thoughts are on this when I try to find document it
says the following:

"You may be encountering this message because an antivirus program is not
allowing the file to open. This can be caused by one of two conditions.
Either the Antivirus program needs to be updated (due to a compatability
problem with this application) or there is a virus in the file but the
Antivirus program cannot properly remove or process the virus it has found."

It did mention the KB 835404, What is your opinion?

Thank you for your reply! I mainly have my troubles with MS (word 2003). And
its probably my fault for the way I save the document. If you read the
("quoted") material that I wrote to Daave the one that also replied, thats
what I get with my troubles with losing documents, proposals, or food
recipes. Hope that will help you understand my problem better.

I think you may have misunderstood what this other person said.

Microsoft Word documents generally already have the .doc extension. So
there is no need for you to add .doc. It sounds like you have a setting
to hide extensions for known file types. I suggest unhiding file
extensions:

1. Open up any folder (you may simply open Windows Explorer).
2. Tools | Folder Options
3. Click View tab
4. Under Advanced Settings, uncheck the box next to "Hide extensions for
known file types."
5. Click "Apply to All Folders."
6. Click OK.

Now, there's no guessing!

Search again. What locations are your files which end in .doc? Is one of
these locations My Documents? Are you now able to locate your Word
documents that you saved?
I want to see what your thoughts are on this when I try to find

Best thing is to Google. You need to look at both these pages and tell
us which situtation is yours:

Something tells me you have the dereaded Norton installed on your
machine!
