Question about Hard Drive and front case fan

I plan on using my cases front fan for air intake. I hard drive rests right
in front of it. I actually have a bunch of slots to put the hard drive in.
Would putting it on the very top or very bottom slot (not directly in front
of the airflow) be better or worse than putting it in one of the middle
slots?

I would want it in front of the fan, especially if a filter is on
the intake area.

The middle slot is right front of the middle of the fan, so I guess I'll put
it there.

One more question: would doing this hurt the air flow at all?

Thanks.

FWIW I put a 120mm fan in the front. I got a global 120mm 2600rpm fan from
bestbyte.net I think. It doesn't make a tremendous amount of noise but can
be heard. The heatsink fan makes more racket. The drives run very cool and
the airflow seems ok in my case as the internal case temps are around 25c. I
have 2 machines with 2 WD 7200rpm drives each mounted in "front / back" of
the case fan.
