Question about activation

When I reactivated by phone, the rep asked me if I got XP from a retailer or
as part of a bundled software on a computer. Why does this make a
difference?

See my other post in this group called
"Activation-How do I stop the insanity?"

Why didn't you ask the person who asked the question?

Bundled, usually OEM's.....Comcraps, HP's, Hell's, Fakeways, etc.

Retail are the actual full/update installs you buy from Best Buy,
etc....

Different types of serials..........

Because I had other things on my mind at the time...like what better things
I could be doing with my 10 minutes, and being shocked that I was going to
have to go through this again when my DVD rom, video card, and memory showed
up.

But don't worry Carey, I am sure I am going to get plenty of opportunities
to call her back. MS is making sure of that.

Presumably he was trying to figure out whether you had an OEM or a
retail version. Of course, you could have bought an OEM CD from a
retailer. And AFAIK, they should be able to tell whether it's OEM or
retail from the serial number.

Adding memory, DVD rom or video card may not require you to call for
activation. XP has "grace" limits for hardware changes.

Yep, do asking about it was just wasting the End Users time some more.

The date and time was Wednesday, January 21, 2009 2:53:01 PM, and on a
whim, JBL pounded out on the keyboard:
Using XP, when I try to rename a photo file I lose the photograph. Any
suggestions?

You should have started a new thread rather than jumping into an
existing one.

Can you see the file extensions in Explorer (the period and letters
after, like .exe or .jpg)? You need to be sure you're renaming only
what's in front of the period, not what's after. So if you have a file
named photo.jpg and you rename it to photo, you'll lose the ability to
see it.

You could put the photograph in a safe place before renaming the photo file.
(Sorry, but this is just my way of pointing out that your question is not
very clearly stated.)
