Query mail merge to word document problem

I am not sure if this is a word or query issue.

I have a query that I mail merge to a word document.
When I run this document it sometimes fails to connect
and link to the query. I then mail merge it to the query and
save the document. When I close the document I get a window
that says that the document has been locked by the administrator.
All I can do is cancel the window and save. Then I close the
document and a recovery of the data window runs.

Does anyone know what to do to fix this? Is it the word document
or database corrupt?
Anyone see this issue before?

I'll always point to Word as the culprit first, but I'm biased. :)
Try saving the data to a table, then basing the merge on the new table
instead of the query.

Thanks for responding.
I tried and it is the same with a table as with a query.

Maybe more information is needed.
1. Windows XP Pro
2. Office 2002

I have a form in access with a button that I hyper linked to a word
document.
If I click the button it takes about 1 minute to appear. Sometimes
longer or it just does not respond. Sometimes I get the previous post above.
Now, if I go to the file manager and double click the word
document it pops up instantly every time.
I think it maybe in the hyperlinking area. Is there another way to
run a word document without hyperlinking?
