query calculator like excel

hey all,
i have a query that displays vacation hours for an employee. when i run the
query is there a calculator like in excel, if i highlight the hours column it
will show the sum in the status bar below?

No, but you can export the query to Excel and perform said highlight. Or
create a report in Access, or create a textbox on a form to display the sum.
