Hello,
I could find that some QFE's has prefix "Q" and some others have "KB".
Could someone tell me the differences in the prefix? Is it the QFE's
with prefix "Q" could be applied to the target designer database and all
with "KB" could apply only to the target machine ? Am I right? Are there
any such more prefixes for QFE's ? Could someone help me .

Thanks & Regards,
Shiju

We simply give it the same designation that the Sustained Engineering
team for the Windows Division assigns to the QFE for XP-Pro. So when we
start componentizing it, the designation is already there and given to
us.

To tell the truth, i have also wondered why some are 'q' and some 'kb'
when they're both patches, but since i have about 900 other critical
issues on plate at any given time, i just accept it and move on <grin>

When we started doing QFE's for XPE, the base updates we used from the
desktop versions had a Q prefix to match the KB article numbering
scheme. Within the past 12-18 months, the KB guys dropped the Q, and
the WinSE team added KB. Why did the KB guys drop the Q? No clue. Why
add KB? No real info, but my guess is to help differentiate between a
KB article number reference and a bug number reference.

And that'll be worth a green pie piece someday in Microsoft Trivial
Pursuit... :-)
