Note to Susan:
current PW ZoneAlarm entry, at
<http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/PL2005SECURITY.php#0893-PW>,
reads:
"ZoneAlarm (Zone Alarm)
(Liteware) (free for home users)"

but the zonealarm homepage
<http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?lid=nav_za>
reads:

"ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable
entity use (excluding governmental entities and educational
institutions)."

I think this is worth mentioning... for the non-gov/edu "charitable
entities" out there looking for freeware. Not many so called freeware
firewalls are free for "not-for-profit charitable entity use", most
are free for personal/home use only. ZoneAlarm thus one exception to
the "rule" worth mentioning, IMHO.

All the best,

Howdy,

Perhaps worth mentioning, but...

We had extremely difficult networking problems
intermittently for months. ZA was turned "OFF."

Eventually, after many hours of diagnostic effort, I decided
to remove ZA from several machines entirely.

With that, our problems were eliminated.

All the best,

Hello,

It is unfortunate you didn't learn how to use it and spend the time to read
the instructions. Zone Alarm is great if installed correctly. The
"problems" you eliminated still exist, it's just that nothing is pointing it
out to you now, so it makes you feel better.

I used to use ZA and AVG for years............After the last updates, and
re-installs, my machine would crawl to a stop, and some e-mails would be
bounced. I know, I tested it for a week. After getting rid of both, it runs
fine again. And yes, I know how to use both programs.

All the best,

Zone Alarm Free will not work properly if MS Internet connection
sharing is used.

You have to reduce the level of protection from High to Medium on the
Internet zone to get it to give you any protection at all.

The answer to that is to turn off e-mail checking in AVG.
