I just bought a brand new Canon 30D and cannot download pictures because of
what Canon says is a windows error. When I plug the camera in, XP tries to
recognize it but cant find ptpusd.dll. I searched my computer and found this
dll in the Windows>System32 folder or something like that, but the install
wizard won't recognize it. I've got a card reader on order but would really
rather not have to use that all the time if I don't have to.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Frank.
I'm not sure if this will help but who knows.
Go to start and bring up the run box copy and paste this into it.
regsvr32 ptpusd.dll and click ok. This will register the .dll with
windows

I got the error message: "ptpusd.dll was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer
entry point was not found. This file can not be registered."

Any ideas?

You might try running the system file checker. How to do that is at this
link.
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

If the file checker replaced this .dll it will tell you so in the "event
viewer".

Or:
You can try replacing the .dll.
Several download sites are here.
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2006-
01,GGLD:en&q=ptpusd%2Edll

Do not delete the one in system32 instead drag and drop it into a new folder
and save it just for now, then put the downloaded .dll into system32 and
register it. If it works then delete the old one.

Good Luck!

I ran the system file checker and it just closed after runing through. I
still couldn't register the dll and it still didn't recognize the camera. I
alsodownloaded one and replaced it with the same results. Thanks for your
help so far.

Any other ideas?
