Finding this icon in different places.
PPThumbs.ptn PTN file.
What is it?. Is it necessary?. What creates it?.
Thanks.

Do you have any ScanSoft software, like PaperPort?

http://www.nuance.com/paperport/

..PTN files are PaperPort Thumbnail Images
Hidden file: PPTHUMBS.PTN. This file also serves as an index file for rapid
location of information by the program.

Depending on the version that you have, you may not have the Rapid Search
feature.

PPThumbs.ptn files are created by Scansoft's program called Paperport, to
hold thumbnail images. According to Scansoft technical support, you may
delete these files, but they will be recreated as soon as you run Paperport
again.

Depending on the version that you have, you can delete PPThumbs.ptn files
and they will not be recreated.
