pst path...?

I followed the instructions to relocate my .pst file to a file within My
Documents per instructions from www.howto-outlook.com. Everything works
well with the exception of: With Outlook open, I go to File/Open/Outlook
Data File.... and I am sent to the old/default locale of the .pst file.

How do I get Outlook to recognize the new locale when accessing the file
using the method above?

By the way, when I follow - Tools/Options/Mail SetUp Tab/Data Files, my mail
is being delivered to the new address. I use WinXP and OL 2002.

Aaln

Hi Alan,

You can open any .PST file in Outlook by clicking File > Open > Outlook Data File, then navigating to the location of the file. Once you have opened amd identified the correct .PST, you
can then make this your default file so your email will automatically be placed in it.

To make your new .PST file the default, click on Tools > Email Accounts, then select "View or change existing email accounts", click next and change the "Deliver new email to the
following location" to point to the new .PST file.

Thank you for your help. I did get it to link. However, I did have one
strange thing happen.

After I moved the pst file to a new locale and after I made that locale the
default. I opened OL and I had two Outlook Today(Personal Files) open.
They both said Outlook Today and were exact duplicates. One wasn't the
backup being open and in fact, when I right clicked on each, closing wasn't
an option.

I deleted my pst and then recopied it from a back up that I had. What
caused this? I have to re-configure another PC and I don't want to fall into
the same trap.

Thanks again,

Alan

What can cause this is copying one PST over the top of another with the same
name.

Brian,

When I open OL2002, and go to File/Data File Management....I get routed to
the place where my pst is located in a folder called WP. But when I goto
File/Open/Outlook Data File, I get routed to the original/default loaction
of my PST file. c/docs &settings/alan/local settings/application
data/Microsoft/Outlook. Is this normal, shouldn't it route to the new
location as mentioned above.

Please feel free to email any insight.

No, it simply shows you where your PST is located. You don't "get routed"
anywhere unless you click Add. If you were to do so, it would behave just
like File>New>Outlook Data File.
But when I goto File/Open/Outlook Data File, I get routed to the
original/default loaction of my PST file. c/docs &settings/alan/local
settings/application data/Microsoft/Outlook. Is this normal,
Yes.

No. The File>Open(or New)>Outlook Data File will always look in
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Thank you again Brian. It just seemed strange to change the location of the
file, but still haviving the PC look to its old locale.

The important thing is that my mail etc is getting sent to the pst in the
proper folder.

Best,

Alan
