.pst and account

Guys,

If I set Outlook 2000 as an account (internet email ), it will create a
default personal folder. Instead of using the default personal folder
that just got created, can I import another .pst and make that as the
"default" and close out the newly created.

So far I have tried it and its not working.

Let it create the PST file as it wishes. Then close Outlook, and delete the
new outlook.pst file it created (you may need to search for hidden/system
folders when you look for it, depending on your OS) and open Outlook - when
it complains it can't find the PST file, direct it to the location of your
*real* PST file.

That said, before you do this, make sure you know where your real PST file
is, and what it's called. I don't like to use the default file locations - I
usually change My Documents to point to C:\DATA and create a subfolder
called Outlook - then put the PST file in there, and rename it username.pst
to keep things tidy. Obviously, you'd do this with Outlook closed.

I originally tried to move the files from the original .pst to the
newly created .pst (by clicking and dropping), but Outlook would hang
up after the process is done.

Btw, when an email account is setup as an account, the "sent" emails
are not being retrieved. Is this the normal?

No need to do that, if you don't care about what's in the new / vanilla PST
file. Hope my advice helped.

Sent mails aren't retrieved from anywhere. I'm not sure what you mean? What
kind of mail account are you using? If POP, when you download it, you
download mail from your inbox on the server. That's it. Sent items should be
stored in the sent items folder in your PST file unless you unticked the
default setting to enable that (check).
 
what de yew mean by "retrieved"? Is this an IMAP, Pop, or Exchange account?
