Protecting Word Document with Imbedded Objects

I have prepared a manual in which I need to protect to esnure no chnages are
made. In this manual I have imbedded additional documents to be used as
examples. When I select the protect document feature in Word 2003 the entire
document is protected to include the imbedded object. Thus the user can not
open imbedded object to get at the attachment.

1. Is there a way to protect the document w/o protecting the imbedded
objects?

2. Should I be doing something else other then trying to attach additional
documents through the imbedding feature of Word 2003

1. If you insert a section break before and after each embedded object (or
group of objects), you can protect the document and, in the Tools > Protect
Document dialog, choose to unprotect the section(s) containing the objects.

2. Another possibility is to insert hyperlinks to the other documents
instead of embedding them, and use the technique at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/HLinksInForms.htm to make the links
work. However, this comes with two requirements: (a) The other documents
must be available to the user, which could be a problem if you need to send
the documents to other computers. (b) The technique requires a macro, so
either the document must be digitally signed or the user must set the macro
security level to Medium and enable the macro when opening the document.

The second option will not work because neither condition 1 or 2 can be met.
I guess I need a little clarification on option 1.

The imbedded objects appear at the end of a sentence. Like
Please see attachment for detailed information. (embedded object)

Thus it does not seem possible to put a continious section break before and
after the embedded object.

You're correct that inserting a continuous section break before the
object will force the object to appear below the text instead of on
the same line. I'm sorry if that's not acceptable, but there are no
other options.
