How can I protect two columns in a sheet. Eg. I could enter data in any cell
except in the cells of colums K and M.

You need to lock the cells. How you do that depends on the version of Excel
you have - press F1 and read the help file for 'lock cells'

Select the whole worksheet ( Ctrl A )
Format menu ( Ctrl 1)
Protection tab> uncheck "lock" OK
Select columns K and M
Ctrl 1
Protection tab
CHECK " lock " OK
Protect whole worksheet :
tools>protection>protect sheet and
choose a password, password again > OK
