thanks for the help mate

I have tried to lock them but this did not work.

I need to protect the formulas and some text fields, in different part of
the sheets and allow them to enter in cells they are allowed to use.

how do I do this, I have looked in the help pages but can not seem to find a
way, it must be there, but I do not know what I am looking for to do a
search.

thank you

By default all cells are locked when the sheet is protected.

Hit CRTL + A(twice if xl2003) then Format>Cells>Protection. Uncheck "locked"
and OK.

Select the cells you wish to lock and Format>Cells>Protection. Check "locked"
and OK.

Now Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet.

You can easily protect the cells from being changed.

Firstly however, you need to remember that locking any cells will have no
effect unless you protect the worksheet:

So, lock your cells, then Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet - leave all options
ticked and don't enter a password.

Now try to change the cells - no chance.

Incidentally, by default, all cells are locked, so by doing the above you
ought not to be able to change any cell.

To rectify this, unprotect the sheet, then unlock all the cells, then
re-lock the cells you want to lock, then re-protect the sheet.

Hope that helps.

just read what I put in last email.

actually it does need to be passworded to stop anyone but myself from
changing the formulas, also the white fields can be changes with out the use
of the password as the white areas would not be protected only the red areas
would be protected.

the person entering the data who ever that may be would have no password
given to them so they would only be allowed to enter data in the white
areas.

I think this is a bit clearer!
