Protect data on CD

Is there any third party software that is available to protect data backed
up to CD and/or HD? Some kind of encryption or password protection freeware
or shareware? I have XP Home Version. TIA
 
A simple way is to select the files and Send To Compressed Zip Folder,
open the compressed folder and add a password. Put the compressed
folder on CD.

How do you set the password, haven't figured that out. Thanks
 
Open the compressed folder, choose File / Add a password. Note that
if you add files later to this folder you need to add password again
as the newly added files will not have a password set.
