There is a Registry hack available but it will not necessarily
suppress the total editing time.
If a document is created and the total editing time is turned off then
the time will not be saved with the document. It will be reflected as
"0 minutes".
If the total editing time option is turned on then Word will begin
recording the time. IIRC once the editing time has been added there is
no way to turn it off again. IOW, if you have a document you
previously created and total editing time is turned off it will still
record the time. I also seem to recall if the total editing time was
turned off but then turned back on again and the document is edited
you will be unable to turn it back off. IOW, the option only applies
to new document and it must always be turned off in order to create a
document with "0 minutes" of total editing time.
If you are still interested then here's what you need to do to add the
Reg hack:
- In the Registry navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<Ver No.>\Word\Options
- Check to see if the NoEditTime value exists
- If not create a new DWord value:
Name: NoEditTime
Value: 1
Note if NoEditTime is already present then just change the value to 1.
As always, prior to making any changes to the Registry you should
review "Backing up the Registry" and "Restoring the Registry" in the
Registry Help.
