I am building a new computer and need to remove WinXP
from my old computer and transfer it to my new computer.
What is the proper way to remove Windows XP from the old
computer. My plans are to reactivate Winxp on the new
system. The version of WinXP I bought is for PCs without
windows.

Thanks in advance.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure:

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then remove the Windows XP CD from the CD Drive,
then hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Windows XP is now removed and you may
proceed to install it on your new PC.

WinXP is registered against your old PC and you won't
be able to re-activate it on the new PC unless you ring
Microsoft and explain the situation.

Greetings --

The normal way to "uninstall" _any_ operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Not entirely true - if the OP has XP Full/Upgrade Retail, and it has
been more than 120 days, it will activate via the internet without
intervention. On the other hand, it if is OEM, it'll never activate
as it is permanently tied to the first PC is was installed/activated
on.
