Prompted to Save File even though no changes

Using Word 2002

I am being prompted to Save documents quite often (most every doc I
think) even though I make no changes to them. This started occurring
after an upgrade from Word 2000 to 2002. I was used to this behavior
with Mail Merge docs but it did not occur before with non-merge docs.

I have shut off "update fields on print". I thought this might be
updating some hidden fields in 2002 in every document, but that change
has not corrected the problem.

Ideas?
