I just deleted my XP Home partition and created a partition for XP Pro. On start up, I now have the choice to start either XP Home or XP Pro. If I try to start XP Home, I get an error message, Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Why does the XP Home option even show up? I just want my machine to automatically boot XP Pro. How can I do this? (I verified I only have 1 partition created). TIA.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not correct the issue, then:

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Hi jaxx55,

If you did indeed delete the partition on which Home resided, and then
created a new partition and formatted it before installing Pro, I have
absolutely no idea why there is still a reference to Home in the boot.ini
file. Have a look here for information regarding removing the XP install
that you don't need:
