Projector & laptop screen unable to show simulteanous moving images

laptop - Sony PCG-Z1RSP / data projector (numerous).
Windows XP Prof. using PowerPoint and indeed anything
else (e.g. Real Player). Unable to show at the same time
any video images on both the laptop screen and via the
data projector. Other moving images such as clip art
okay. It's possible to toggle Fn/F7 to show same display
for projector and laptop, but videos (e.g. mpg's) cannot
run on both. This is a real problem and any help finding
a solution will be much appreciated
