programs wont start

i am running on windows xp and i cannot open any programs from the start
menu, or from any other postion unless i right click and hit "run as" and
disable the fact that the computer is protect, i thot this might be a virus
as when u try and start a program or even try and look at properties in
certain parts it comes up a black box for a second with the words "program
too big to fit to memory", in it? i have no idea what this could be and i am
looking for some help,

Hi Michael,

Checkpoint:
Files smaller than 64K which are infected with the Hellraiser virus return
the user to the DOS prompt when the user attempts to execute them. Files
which are larger than 64K receive a "Program too big to fit in memory"
message when the user attempts to execute them.
