XP Pro sp2

Have you got the latest service pack i.e., SP2?
If yes then you may be experiencing any problem with virus affection.
Restart in safe mode and try to open with shortcuts. Scan your system with
antivirus software to find whether any trojan horse is preventing to open
from shortcuts.

Right click on the shortcut and, from the drop down menu, click properties.
Click the shortcut tab and check that the 'target' dialogue box contains the
correct location for the application in question.
You can click the Find target button to make sure the shortcut target is
being directed to the correct location.

Hi,

Go to www.dougknox.com, click on WinXP Fixes, then locate File Association
Fixes. You want to download and run the .lnk (shortcut) fix.

When I double click my desktop shortcut icons for Internet Explorer and other
sites that use Explorer, I get an error message and a report is sent to
Microsoft. Then Internet Explorer will open and allow me to do my work.
This has only been a problem since I downloaded/upgraded to the newest
version of Norton Internet Protection and Systemworks 2006. How can fix
whatever problem is causing this?

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know ANYONE who is using Norton 2006, or 2005 or
2004 who is happy.

I'd recommend that you get a copy of Norton SW 2003 for hard
drive/system management, and use other software for your
other needs.

Good luck!

Bad advice to tell someone to use an obsolete antivirus program. I agree
with your assessment of the lack of quality of Symantec's consumer av
products.

And I, on the other hand, would recommend that someone use almost any other
antivirus/malware protection program than Norton, regardless of the version.
It and McAfee are probably the two *worst* choices.

Over and above whether Norton is any good or not, it's irresponsible to
suggest to someone that he use three-year-old software to protect himself.
If you want to use a three-year-old word processing program, that's fine.
YOu lose nothing but some newer features. But using outdated anti-virus
software puts your data nd your system at risk.

Exactly Right. Life-Cycles for Security software are not the same as for
other applications.

Thank you Pramit Roy for helping me. I have service pack 2, so I will try
starting in safe mode. I will get back to you.
