when I start my XP system, some programs like Netscape run automatically.
How do I stop that from happening ?

Start each program and go through the menus, looking for an entry that says
'preferences', 'options' or something similar. Select that item and you will
be able to customize many characteristics of the programs, including whether
or not they start when Windows starts.

Yeah, but there is another way.
You basically remove stuff from some folder on C drive
I dont remember the path to that folder though
Do anyone know?

The msconfig will help but Mike is correct when he states
that you need to go into each programs configuration
utility to prevent it from auto starting in the future.
Some programs will only add a new entry into the msconfig
so that now you will have an entry with a checked box and
one without it there. Good luck.

My way is the safe way -- you do want to do things in a safe way, right?

Greetings --

In most cases, one need only open the offending program and
deselect the option to "display icon in the system tray" or to "start
when Windows starts."

Failing that, you can use Start > Run > MSConfig to temporarily
turn off the automatic startup of these programs. MSConfig will also
show you where the commands starting these programs are originating,
so that you can permanently eliminate the source of your irritations.
Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start
Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the system registry, primarily
in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
