programs not installing

Hi. I have a XP Pro computer at home and I'm an administrator. Some of my
programs are not installing the way it should.

For example, when I try installing Yahoo Messenger 6.0, and run the setup,
it tells me the "required disk space" is 0 MB, when I know it's over 11MB. I
click OK, and Setup says it installed successfully.

Other programs give me access denied.

Some programs I can install, but most I can not. How do I fix this?

clean up all your temp files and run scandisk

There is no Scandisk in Windows XP. The OP should run Chkdsk. See:
How to use Chkdsk - http://tinyurl.com/2obcd

And yes, some housekeeping and general troubleshooting is in order.

Start by making sure the computer is completely virus/malware-free:

Other housekeeping:
