Hi,

I'm in the process of implementing Group Policy into my NT domain (for
security reasons and new staff).

I must have applied an invalid setting or something as now many users do not
have any programs on their menus. I've removed and unapplied many of the
possibly related settings to try and rectify the problem. It only applies
to the windows XP clients. I'm at a loss for a solution

If you right click the menu and browse/open or explore they are all there.

I've seen similar posts with identical problems in networks where the
security policy has already been "bedded in".

I've read in places that it takes up to 2hours for windows to refresh its
Group Policy but it doesnt seem to have fixed it. It's as though the
policies arent applied correctly.

Just what is it that you have used and done?
There is no Group Policy that can be centrally applied
in an NT 4 domain. This makes your post pretty hard
to follow.

Using system policy editor i've created a ntconfig.pol file and placed it
into the netlogon folder of the PDC. This works and applies itself fine to
the rest of the domain. So i'm 99% pretty sure i've done that correctly.
Luckily i currently only have 7 computers in place using XP.

The problem with the XP systems is the All Programs folder on the Start menu
is not populated and says it is empty. This is a permanent problem. If i
right click the folder and explore/open or browse it opens up the correct
folder as expected containing all the users shortcuts.

To attempt to correct the problem i've introduced custom folders into the
shell. The default system policy uses %ALLUSERSPROFILES% to point to the
correct folder and the default user policy uses %USERPROFILE% to point to
the correct folder. This works as expected with every other operating
system but not with XP. The major difference i know

I think that covers everything that i've done.

James,

I do not know your solution.
You are using System Policy, not Group Policy, so with
that cleared I am now understanding your issue.
However, I do not use System Policy so am at a loss as
to how/why this same System Policy would work with a
W2k client but not a XP client.
