While doing a norton update my machine froze when I rebooted everything was
converted to a .lnk file and as such nothing works. XP home comes up but
nothing runs and I can not execute an commands under RUN. I did an XP
repair. This did not help or change anything. I then tried to do the XP file
association fix. We I tried to load the XP reg file under regedit. I got the
following error message.
Registry Editor
Cannot import M;\XP regfile.reg Not all data was successfully written to
the registry. Some keys are openby the system or other processes.

Not sure where to go from here. Need help.

What was the registry file you were trying to import?

If you go to the Symantec website (http://www.symantec.com), select your
product then you can go to Live Help & they should be able to assist you
there because its their application that has messed your machine up

As you haven't posted what Norton product you have then its not possible to
help you. Plus, was your update a Live Update, an Intelligent Updater or was
it a product upgrade?

As I said in the original note I was trying to load XP- regfile .reg this is
part of the extension fixes that some one from the newsgroup pointed me to,
and as far as the software I was trying to load whe the problem occured, I
was doing an 2005 to 2006 anti virus update from a disk. I have contacted
Norton through email but I don't expect much to come of it.
