Programmatic Hibernation

Is there a way to programmatically tell XP to go into Hibernation (or
standby) mode? Of course I can use the Shutdown command to shut the system
down or to restart it but how can I tell it to Hibernate?

There are two different API's that you could use.

You could get psshutdown.exe from Sysinternals (M$), and use the -h switch.

Look at Control Panel>Power Options. Study the tabs; write down present
settings just in case, then change what you want. I am set up to Hibernate
both after so many minutes idle and via the power button.
