Where and how can I find appropriate "gear" to open the ZL9 programme I
received (a cat walking across the screen). When I double click the item it
tells me to look for a programma to open it, but I really don't know how this
works.
I'd be grateful for your help. Joan

A quick Google for "ZL9" doesn't bring up anything useful. You'll need
to tell us what a "ZL9 programme" is and possibly where you got it if
you want specific answers. See the following link for help in making a
good newsgroup post:

I haven't Zone Alarm installed and just got this funny animation programme
from a trusted friend but it didn't (and doesn't) work as it should and
therefore I tried to get advice via this group to make it work! I supposed
someone out there would know which "item" would make the animation work! It's
not a serious problem in the XP-system but for me it is! Thank for your help.

There are two possibilities that I can think of:

1. Your friend is probably using Zone alarm, and the Mailsafe feature has
renamed the file for security.
2. Your system has EZ Trust firewall installed (same as ZA), with Mailsafe
feature enabled.

Mailsafe extension ZL9 corresponds to .EXE and simply renaming the file to
..exe *may* work. But it's even better to ask the sender more informaiton
about the file, and thoroughly scan the file for viruses before executing.

Thank you for your answer which made sense to me!
It's the working of the "innerthings" of my computer which interest me
actually more than the working itself and as it is rather difficult to get an
anwer in these matters and it's a good thing there are people like you who
share their knowledge.
