Program Termination: RegEdit, TaskManager, System Config Util

Apparently I'm having the same problems as a number of
other posters here: regedit, taskmanager, the system
config utility, and proabably some other OS-related
programs launch and then immediately close themselves.

I continuously run Norton Auto-Protect AV software, all
the same I have additionally run both McAfee and Symantec
AV scans of the conmputer; both give the computer a
completely clean bill-of-health.

I have had Norton Utilities "cleanup" the registry and
all the hard drives.

I have run the exefix provided by Kelly's Korner.

I have tried to restore the computer to a previous state,
however, this always return the oh-so-helpful message
that the system could not be retored (no explanation
given) and that no changes were made to the computer.

I have rebooted, countless times.

The problem persists. Any further hlep would be MOST
appreciated.

Won't this screw up XP if one has done a Windows Update ? You will
have newer versions of the DLLs etc on the system, and the original
XP files on the CD .
