Using IE6 and XP Home. Frequently, but not always, when I click on a link
within my favorite sports website (cbs.sportsline.com) the program hangs and
an error message appears saying that the program is not responding and then
I close it and all my other open windows also close. This same problem
occurs with one or two other popular websites infrequently, also.

I use Lavasoft for spyware. All else seems normal! Is there a fix for the
above?

Thanks in advance, Fran

Try going to search at microsoft, type:macromedia Select shockwave
player,install at thier site,then look for downloads,select,flash player,and
install. If wmp is any way involved for video, open WMP9 series, tools,
options, select, connect to the internet, then close out.

You need more than one program for spyware. Use also spybot (search & destroy) - (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html), and Webroot's spysweeper. (http://www.webroot.com) All of these programs work in conjunction with lavasoft's adaware. Nonetheless, if your automatic updates are on and you have service pack 2 installed, this could cause a problem.

To quickly troubleshoot this, download Mozilla or firefox (http://mozilla.org) and check to see if one of these browsers hangs. If not then your IE6 is hooped. (probably hijacked or something)

If your not running internet explorer sp1, try upgrading to this service pack. (http://download.com)

The problem with internet explorer is that it runs everything, it's not just an internet browser, it's part of the operating system.

If your registry is screwed up , this could cause a problem too. Download RegSupreme (http://www.macecraft.com/) This program will find errors in the registry (a file where windows records everything) and fixes them automatically.
