Program failures Windows Explorer

I have Windows XP, SP1, with all manditory fixes.
Pentium 4, 256K mem, with 40 gig disk space. Randomly I
experience program failures while adding, deleting, or
renaming files and folders. Any idea as to the cause?
 
By program failures do you mean error messages. Post the contents here
and maybe we can help.
