Dears, I am using WindowsXP Pro SP2. I can’t open any file from 'My Computer'
and 'Windows Explorer'. When I going to open any file, a dialog box appears
with following message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program Error!
Program: C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
abnormal program termination.

When I install any of Microsoft Visual Basic/Web Developer/C++ .Net 2005
Express Edition and run any of them first time after that, this problem
occurs.

I will appreciate if someone could do any help in this regards.

Seems to me that a Malware/Torjan has been installed on your computer. Why
dont you try and anti-virus and scan your system for infection

But first you might like to try System Restore. Go back to the day before you
noticed this problem. It might well set you right. Good luck.

Let me explain, what I have already done.

Used Windows Configuration Utility (MSConfig),
Disabled All Programs --> Problem Exists
Enable All Progarms One-by-One and checked on enable each program -->
Problem Exists
Used System Restore Utility, Step-by-Step to previous Restore Point -->
Problem Exists
Used RegCure Software, whose claims can fix Explorer.Exe --> Problem Exists
Used TuneUp 2006 Utilites --> Problem Exists
Un-installed suspected software --> Problem Exists
Using Updated “Norton Internet Security 2007â€, Full Scanned System -->
Problem Exists
Using Updated Windows on Sunday, September 03, 2006 --> Problem Exists

However, there is no error message in “SAFE MODEâ€. It works normally.

Try disabling services as well as startup items with msconfig. In services
first check the box 'Hide all microsoft services" and then click disable all.

I tried according to you wrote and disabling and enabling all services and
startup items one-by-one. The problem is still there.

As you know it works fine in 'SAFE MODE', now I tried with same
configuration of 'SAFE MODE' in 'NORMAL MODE' and it raised again Error
Message. Although there is no Error Message in 'SAFE MODE' with same
configuration.

Dear all,

I had the same problem (am using xp Home though) after installing/upgrading
to the latest version of Yahoo Toolbar - not Google, which caused the same
problem for many earlier this year and last. Read every thread on this issue
- boy did that take some time! Also found that (at
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/index.html) Yahoo Toolbar contains Spyware
issues, but that it does not explicitly notify the user about its privacy
issues (apart from the small print in the EULA agreement - and who reads the
whole of those - I don't, and I am a lawyer!!) - unlike other software
companies, such as Google with its dialogue boxes which pop up when a privacy
issue arises.

Anyway, after trying everything that I was able to, as an above average
user, a very deep scan using Zone Alarm Security Suite found that I had the
Ardamax Kelogger malware. After removing this, the problem was solved.

I cannot say for sure that Yahoo Toolbar was responsible, but I can only
assume that it had something to do with the problem in some way or form as
the only thing different that I did was to install their Toolbar. I recommend
that you exercise caution when installing the Yahoo Toolbar, as perhaps there
are some bugs which allow for a security issue to be taken advantage of by
3rd parties. You need to do your own reasearch on this.

Hope that helps you all.

Regards,

Seamus.
